To keep your car running smoothly and avoid a mid-day breakdown.

1. The "Big Three" Health Checks

  • Battery: High heat accelerates the chemical reaction inside batteries, causing them to fail without warning. Most batteries in the UAE only last 2–3 years. Have a mechanic test the voltage and check for "swelling" or terminal corrosion.

  • Tires: Hot asphalt can cause tire pressure to spike, leading to blowouts. Check your pressure weekly (only when tires are cold). Inspect the sidewalls for "heat cracks"—if you see them, replace the tires immediately.

  • Cooling System: Your engine relies on coolant to survive. Check the reservoir levels regularly. If the coolant looks brown or rusty, get a "radiator flush." Also, ensure your radiator fans are spinning properly.

2. Interior & Exterior Protection

  • Park Smart: This is the simplest fix. Always prioritize basement or shaded parking. If you must park in the sun, turn the car so the rear faces the sun to protect the dashboard.

  • Window Tints & Shades: Use a high-quality windshield sunshade every time you park. Consider legal window tinting (up to 50% is generally allowed, but check current RTA rules) to block UV rays.

  • Paint Care: The sun and sand act like sandpaper on your paint. A good coat of wax or a ceramic coating provides a sacrificial layer that prevents the paint from fading or "chalking."

3. AC Optimization

  • Cabin Filter: Sand and dust clog filters quickly in the UAE. Replace your cabin air filter every 6 months to ensure maximum airflow.

  • The "Hot Start" Routine: When you get into a hot car, roll down all windows and drive for 2 minutes with the AC on "Fresh Air" mode to push out the trapped 60°C air. Once it’s bearable, roll up the windows and switch to "Recirculation" mode.

4. Critical Fluids

Beyond coolant, heat thins out your other fluids:

  • Engine Oil: Consider a slightly higher viscosity oil if your manufacturer allows it, as heat makes oil thinner and less effective at lubricating.

  • Wiper Fluid: Don't just use water; use a proper wiper mix to prevent the rubber blades from sticking to and tearing on the hot glass.

?? Safety Warning: Never leave pressurized cans (deodorant, lighters) or power banks in the car. Interior temperatures can easily reach 70°C, which can cause these items to explode.
